On Tuesday, July 23, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

«This is a strong signal from the Vatican, thank you for such support. We are grateful for your participation in the Summit in Switzerland. This is the first step towards peace, and every step is valuable. It is important that you also support this. We all understand that we must go this path as quickly as possible in order not to lose human lives,» Zelensky said.

The head of state and the Secretary of State of the Vatican discussed the first peace summit in Switzerland, the role of the Holy See in establishing a just and sustainable peace for Ukraine, and Russian attacks, including the missile strike of the RF on the children’s hospital «Okhmatdyt.»

Earlier, Parolin met with the mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi.

During a general audience on the last Wednesday of June, the Pope met with relatives of illegally detained Russian prisoners of war from the «Azov» brigade.
