Disagreement over Mobilization Numbers
According to The Washington Post, a serious disagreement has arisen between Ukrainian President Zelensky and Chief Commander of the Armed Forces Zaluzhny over the general’s request for the mobilization of a larger number of soldiers.
Tense Situation
An official representative of Ukraine reported that Zaluzhny proposed mobilizing around 500,000 military personnel, but Zelensky rejected this idea, despite the military’s call for the need to increase the army’s numbers.
«The situation with the numbers is indeed tense. We lack people. There are constantly losses on the front line: some get sick, some are transferred to the rear, and some are discharged due to health reasons. Considering that Russian forces continue to advance, especially in eastern Ukraine, the need for reinforcement is critical,» noted a major commanding a unit in the east of the country.
Relationship Strained
The Washington Post notes that Zaluzhny does not feel bitter about his upcoming dismissal, as his relationship with Zelensky has remained strained throughout the two-year period of military action with Russia.
