Ukrzaliznytsia’s Project Approved by CEF Coordination Committee

According to the press release of «Ukrzaliznytsia», the Coordination Committee of the CEF program has approved the project application from UZ.

The project involves the modernization of the railway network and the development of the 1435 mm gauge to ensure compatibility and increase the infrastructure capacity.

The total budget of the project is €85.91 million, of which CEF will provide €42.95 million to «Ukrzaliznytsia».

Planned Scope of the Project

1. Design of the reconstruction of railway structures using the 1435 mm gauge on the Chop — Lviv section.

2. Design of the reconstruction of railway structures with the construction of the 1435 mm gauge and electrification on the Lviv — Chernivtsi — Vadul-Siret — State border section.

3. Development of a strategy for the reconstruction of the Lviv railway junction taking into account the prospects for expanding the railway network with a 1435 mm gauge within the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) in Ukraine.

4. Design and construction of the 1435 mm gauge with electrification on the Pavlovo-2/Matevce — Uzhgorod section.

5. Electrification of the 1435 mm gauge on the Chop — Uzhgorod section.

The costs for compliance assessment with the TSI requirements of the mentioned projects are also provided, as well as for the sections Kovel — Yagodin — State border and Medyka/Mostyska II — Lviv (Skniliv).
