In Donetsk region, law enforcement officers have detained a hostile agent who was engaged in espionage activities regarding military airfields. This was reported by the SBU press service.
Task from the «Wagner» private military company
The spy was supposed to monitor the positions of the Armed Forces in the Kramatorsk region. He received this task from the militants of the private military company «Wagner», which is currently part of the regular troops of the aggressor country.
Collection of intelligence
In particular, the agent collected coordinates of the airfields where the Armed Forces’ combat helicopters were based, as well as the locations of personnel and heavy weaponry of the Ukrainian troops defending the district center. To gather intelligence, the criminal walked around the area and under the guise of a stroll, filmed the surrounding territory.
Preparation for combat operations
In case of obtaining intelligence, the Russian occupiers planned to use it to prepare combat operations in the Kramatorsk and Sloviansk directions.
Legal consequences
The Security Service investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized dissemination of information about the direction, movement of weapons, armaments, and ammunition to Ukraine, movement or location of the Armed Forces). He is currently in custody facing up to 8 years in prison.
