Huge Snake Petroglyphs Discovered in Amazon
Huge snake petroglyphs, some of which reach over 40 meters in length, have been discovered as ancient versions of road signs made by local indigenous people, reports Успіх in UA.
Protecting Ancient Rock Art
Researchers have come to this conclusion by comparing the location of the images and information about the mythology of the Amazonian inhabitants. Currently, scientists are striving to protect these rock art pieces, which have already partially suffered from vandalism, as reported by nauka.ua.
Speculated Age of Petroglyphs
The researchers have not been able to accurately determine the age of the images, but they speculate that they were created between 1030 and 1480. These dates coincide with the ceramic era found in nearby archaeological sites, where motifs similar to those depicted on the rocks can be found.
