The Importance of Communication in Engineering

The problem lay in the fact that the new wing was developed with changes. Moreover, there was a lack of communication between the engineers and those who checked the car according to technical requirements. They did not understand that the concept had changed, and now everything was focused on the edge of the wing, not on the center as before. Although this is not an excuse — everything should always be checked, regardless of information. However, they simply focused on the center.

According to the engineers’ idea, the wing was supposed to be maximally stretched from both sides. If the information about the changes in the car had been clearly conveyed to other employees, the situation would have been different. Even without this information, car inspection specialists should have checked it completely according to the technical regulations. Productivity may be zero, but that’s beside the point. The car’s design must clearly comply with the regulations.

«We must ensure that such mistakes are not repeated. This morning I held a meeting with the team to explain this. We need to accept this properly. We can only blame ourselves. We just need to take responsibility and move forward,» Komatsu said.
