Latvian President’s Recommendations on Achieving Peace in Ukraine
Latvian President, Egards Rinkēvičs, has expressed his recommendations on how to make Russia truly seek peace. According to him, Ukraine’s allies should take four steps to achieve this goal.
Providing Necessary Support to Ukraine
The first step is to provide Ukraine with the necessary military equipment, lift restrictions on its use, and support it in every way.
Continuing Sanctions Pressure
The second step is to continue the sanctions pressure on Russia and Belarus.
Legal Obligations
The third step is the legal consolidation of obligations towards Ukraine in case of aggression.
«When Russia sees that the international community truly supports Ukraine and its territorial integrity, it will start to understand that peace is the only way,» Rinkēvičs noted.
The President of Latvia also emphasized that Putin’s current statements about readiness for negotiations are just a «show», and in reality, the Kremlin has no true desire for constructive dialogue.
«Russia continues to try to take control of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, using its military forces to put maximum pressure on Ukraine’s defense forces,» Rinkēvičs stressed.
It is worth noting that the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, called on citizens not to panic and to trust the information coming from the military authorities.
