The European Union Condemns Russia for MH17 Tragedy

The European Union has once again expressed condemnation of Russia and its allies in connection with the tragedy of the Malaysian Flight MH17 over the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. It urged Russia to acknowledge its responsibility for this event and fully cooperate in the pursuit of justice.

As reported by Ukrinform, the statement of the European Union noted that the EU supports all international efforts to establish truth, justice, and accountability, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2166. The EU also expressed condolences to the families of the 298 victims, including 80 children, and emphasized the need for accountability and punishment for those responsible.

The document stated that a court in The Hague has already sentenced three individuals to life imprisonment for their role in this tragedy. The European Union underscored that all presented evidence clearly shows the military origin of the «BUK» missile system that shot down flight MH17, and its belonging to the armed forces of the Russian Federation.

The document also acknowledges the initiatives of the Netherlands in the European Court of Human Rights and the International Civil Aviation Organization aimed at achieving truth and justice in the MH17 case.
