Massive Flooding in Brazilian State of Acre
Heavy rains in the northwestern region of the Brazilian state of Acre have caused massive flooding, leading to the evacuation of around 11,000 residents and a serious humanitarian crisis. Governor of the state of Acre, Gladson Cameli, has demanded immediate assistance from the central government. This was reported by bnn.
Overflowing Rivers and Record Levels
Rivers have overflowed their banks. In particular, the Acre River reached a level of 15.5 meters for the first time in history. As a result, 80% of the city of Brasilia is now underwater. Over two thousand people have been left homeless and 20 bridges have been destroyed.
State of Emergency Declared
The coordinator of the state’s civil defense, Colonel Carlos Batista, declared a state of emergency in several cities and issued an evacuation order to protect the lives of 11,000 people who are in danger.
