Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of D-Day

According to this year’s theme, the ceremonies honoring the 80th anniversary of D-Day, marked on June 6, 1944, aim to promote unity among nations that united in sacrifice to resist authoritarianism. This was one of the most significant military operations of the anti-Hitler coalition during World War II, involving over 150,000 soldiers from various countries, including the United States, Great Britain, France, Canada, and Australia. The Normandy landings opened the Western front in Europe and greatly contributed to the victory over fascist forces.

Unity Against Authoritarianism

In 2024, taking into account current challenges, allies are once again set to demonstrate unity against the threat of authoritarianism. During the ceremonies, unlike in previous years, there is no participation from the Russian leader, as he has become the subject of international legal action. At the same time, Ukraine is considering opportunities to cooperate with allies in combating Russian aggression, including through diplomatic efforts in Paris.
