Apple announces the return of SharePlay feature in iOS 18

At the WWDC 2024 conference, Apple revealed that the SharePlay feature will make a comeback in the upcoming iOS 18 operating system. This feature will be supported on various Apple devices, including Apple HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV, and even regular Bluetooth speakers through Apple Music.

Apple Music integration with Taptic Engine

Apple also announced the integration of Apple Music with the Taptic Engine of the iPhone. This integration will allow for tactile sensations synced with the music, enhancing the listening experience for individuals with hearing impairments.

SharePlay for music sharing

With SharePlay, users can share music control with friends and family, regardless of their Apple Music subscription status. All that is required is an iPhone with the Apple Music app installed, enabling scanning of the SharePlay QR code using their device. This update will be available in the fall alongside updates for tvOS and iOS.

SharePlay in Apple CarPlay and new Apple Pay feature

SharePlay is already operational in Apple CarPlay, facilitating music playback control sharing. Following a successful testing phase in the beta version of iOS 17.4, this feature will extend to other Apple devices. Moreover, a new Apple Pay feature will be accessible on desktop browsers such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and the Windows platform for iPhone users with the iOS 18 update. This update will also allow iPhones to display the time even when fully discharged.
