Former Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and current Ambassador to Sweden, Linas Linkevičius, provoked a reaction from Russia after joking about the Crimean Bridge, which has become a subject of contention in Ukraine.

«If someone has not yet had the chance to take a photo on the Kerch Bridge, there is still time,»

he wrote on Twitter, implying the possibility of its destruction.

Dmitry Polyanskiy, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN,

reacted to this, calling Linkevičius a «obedient Baltic lapdog of the USA» and making threats. He claimed that the former minister «will regret those words on judgment day.»

The Crimean Bridge, built by Russian occupiers, is a disputed object. Ukrainian military periodically take actions against the bridge, and the Ukrainian military leadership considers it a legitimate target for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to The Guardian, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is planning to strike the Crimean Bridge in the first half of 2024.
