Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Russian Missile Strike in Odessa

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his belief that the missile strike carried out by Russia on Odessa in March 2024 was not accidental. He stated that during the incident, when he was visiting, there was an air raid alarm and tension was palpable as there was nowhere to hide.

«I believe it was an act of intimidation. However, we are not going to give up. Greece’s position remains unchanged, as does the position of the European Union. Putin was wrong. By attacking Ukraine, he hoped to divide Europe. But Europe has shown extraordinary unity,» he emphasized.

Mitsotakis recounted that during the shelling, the delegation was in the port of Odessa and witnessed the destruction after Russian attacks.

«We heard sirens and felt alarmed, as there was no possibility to find shelter. Later, we heard a powerful explosion. It was close enough to scare us, but not so much that we felt an immediate threat. This incident showed us that this is everyday reality for Ukraine,» Mitsotakis added.
