Odessa’s «sailors» secure a thrilling victory
Odessa’s «sailors» secured an important victory against «Oleksandriya» from Kirovohrad Oblast with a score of 3:2 on their home turf.
After being knocked out of the Ukrainian Cup, the Odessa team focused on the national championship. In their first game after an exhausting semi-final, the sailors hosted «Oleksandriya». The beginning proved to be difficult for Roman Hryhorchuk’s team. The guests created several moments near Danil Varakuta’s goal, and our goalkeeper had to intervene once.
The hosts’ first attack led to the opening goal. A combination involving Oleksandr Vasilyev and Maksym Bragar was finished with a precise strike by Bohdan Boychuk. The hosts quickly doubled their advantage. Andriy Shtohrin escaped from the guests’ defender Campos and forced him to commit a foul in the penalty area. A penalty, a red card, and a goal by Ilya Putry from the penalty spot — 2:0. When at the end of the first half Vitaliy Yermakov raised the score to 3:0 after a shot by the same Shtohrin, it seemed that the job was done.
However, «Oleksandriya» did not intend to give up and twice punished the sailors for careless mistakes in defense. At the beginning of the second half, the score was already 3:2. But the Odessa team did not allow themselves to make any more gifts to the opponent and calmly secured the match for an important victory.
Second consecutive victory for the «sailors»
With a score of 3:2, this is the second consecutive victory for the «sailors» in the Ukrainian Premier League. «Chornomorets» remains in eighth place in the standings.
