Former Director of National Intelligence Supports Increased US Assistance to Ukraine

Former Director of National Intelligence in the Trump administration, Dan Coats, has voiced support for the approval of increased US assistance to Ukraine, emphasizing that now is «not the time for political games».

An article in The New York Times quotes Coats, who expressed the opinion that lawmakers opposing the increase in aid to Ukraine are making a «wrong choice».

«The real choice is that America always comes first. Our key national interests, such as security and economic prosperity, are tied to the strength of global alliances and the international system of law and cooperation,» he noted.

Coats also stressed that supporting Ukraine in its efforts to defend against Russian aggression is crucial to ensuring the security of the US and its allies.

«Providing assistance to Ukraine is the cheapest way to weaken the Russian military and prevent Russian aggression, ensuring security for us and our allies,» he added.

Coats warns that Putin’s victory will increase defense costs in the region and emphasizes that refusing to provide assistance to Ukraine would be detrimental not only to NATO but also to the US and its allies.

«Our allies expect support from us during this challenging time. A true security partner shows steadfastness, and now America must demonstrate its commitment,» Coats concluded.
