In the Odessa region, preparations are underway for the repair of Ukraine’s largest floating crane, the «Bogatyr.» The Black Sea branch of the Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine has announced a tender for these works, with an expected cost of 16 million 400 thousand hryvnias.

Comprehensive Repair Plan

According to the plan, the floating crane will be lifted into dry dock for a comprehensive repair. Among the main tasks are cleaning and defect inspection of the hull, painting, repair of engines and propellers, replacing decks, as well as updating electrical wiring and other mechanical systems.

Upcoming Auction

The auction to select a contractor will take place on April 30, and all work must be completed by the end of the year.

Capabilities of the «Bogatyr» Floating Crane

The «Bogatyr» floating crane is capable of lifting loads weighing up to 300 tons and is the largest in its class in Ukraine. It has been involved in a number of complex operations, including lifting the sunken cutter «Ivolga» in 2015 and assisting in freeing a tugboat stuck near the «Dolphin» beach in Odessa in 2019.

Previous Repairs

The last repair of the «Bogatyr» was carried out in 2021 at the «Illichivsk Ship Repair Plant,» after which it received a warranty period until November 2023.
