Launch of Trams in Kharkiv Delayed Due to Energy Infrastructure Problems
Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov has stated that the full restoration of tram and electric transport in the city is currently stalled due to issues with the energy infrastructure, which was damaged by shelling. He mentioned that unfortunately, at this time, it is impossible to fully resume tram and surface electric transport operations.
While electricity supply to residential buildings in Kharkiv is being maintained according to a set schedule, there have been some interruptions. The city’s metro has partially resumed passenger transportation, with extended intervals between trains — every 10-12 minutes during peak hours and up to 20 minutes in the evening after 7:00 PM.
Some trolleybuses with autonomous driving capabilities are currently in operation in Kharkiv to help residents reach the main metro stations, offering a temporary solution to the transportation challenges faced by the city.
Following the severe damage inflicted on the energy infrastructure of Kharkiv during the Russian shelling on March 22, the city is experiencing a critical shortage of energy. Nearly all vital energy facilities, including transformer substations and thermal power plants, have been rendered non-operational due to the destruction caused.
