Scandal at Richelieu Lyceum in Odessa

After the spring break at the Richelieu Lyceum in Odessa, a scandal erupted. The school administration decided to switch students from grades 9-11 to fully offline learning, even though classes were previously held in a blended format. However, the building on Elisavetinskaya Street lacks its own bomb shelters. In case of a ballistic threat to the students, they have adapted… rooms with windows, glass doors, and tiled walls.

Parents of the students told «Dumskaya» that the school usually uses the bomb shelter of Mechnikov Odessa National University, which is located 400 meters away, with other protective structures at a similar distance. But after children found themselves on the street during the shelling of Dacha Kovalyovska by «Iskander missiles», they are now left in the lyceum building during a ballistic threat.

Corridors and cloakrooms in a semi-basement area were chosen as shelter. From the photos provided by the editorial office, it is evident that these premises are not suitable for such purposes at all. Moreover, the presence of schoolchildren there during an attack can lead to injuries from glass and tile fragments.
