Verdict Issued for Driver-Fueler of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Shepetivka district court has issued a verdict to a driver-fueler of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for desertion. The accused left the military unit twice without permission and spent several months at home at his own discretion. For this, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
Details of the Case
According to the verdict made on May 22, soldier Artur S. first fled the military unit in July 2023. He went home to Slavuta and stayed there until November 8, 2023. The second time, the accused committed the crime less than two weeks after returning to service. On November 20, 2023, he once again left for home without informing the authorities, where he stayed for five months until law enforcement officers detained him.
Artur S. admitted his guilt in court but refused to testify.
Court Decision
The court believes that the accused should be punished with imprisonment, which will be necessary and sufficient for his correction and prevention of new criminal offenses, according to the court decision. Judge Natalia Stadnichuk found Artur S. guilty of desertion under Article 407, Part 5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (desertion by a serviceman and failure to report for duty without valid reasons for more than three days during wartime) and sentenced him to 5 years in prison.
