On May 10, delegations from France and Germany, led by the mayors of Nancy, Mathieu Klein, and Karlsruhe, Frank Mentrup, arrived in Vinnytsia for a working visit. The participants of the meeting visited Vinnytsia Lyceum No. 1, where they met with students involved in the intercity cooperation project.
During the educational conference, students demonstrated their level of proficiency in foreign languages to the European guests and shared their impressions of visits to twin cities. The possibility of new visits by Vinnytsia educators was also discussed, and an exchange of gifts took place.
Mayors Nancy and Karlsruhe shared their impressions of Vinnytsia and Ukraine, expressing admiration for Ukrainian culture and hospitality.
«You are strong and just. The way Ukrainians fight for freedom and independence is inspiring,» noted Mathieu Klein.
Mayor Nancy also expressed hope that Ukraine will soon prevail, and French children will be able to visit Vinnytsia. Both cities expressed a desire to host young Vinnytsia residents as guests in the future.
During the meeting, they recalled how the idea of signing an agreement with Vinnytsia originated.
«During the full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine, we decided to find a Ukrainian city that we could support. An important factor was the advice of our colleague, who spoke highly of the city during her time in Vinnytsia,» said Frank Mentrup.
Deputy Mayor of Vinnytsia, Halyna Yakubovych, thanked international partners for the warm reception of Vinnytsia children and expressed hope for further cooperation and exchange of experiences.
