Impact of War on Ukrainian Culture
During the two years of war in Ukraine, the sphere of culture has suffered serious losses, losing 18% of its employees in all segments of cultural life. This information was announced on Wednesday at the all-Ukrainian forum «Culture during war. Human capital» in Kyiv by the acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Rostyslav Karandieve.
As of May 2024, there are 125.9 thousand employees in the field of culture, which is 29.7 thousand less than in February 2022, when there were 155.6 thousand. Particularly significant losses were felt in the occupied and near-front territories, where the number of employees decreased by 44%.
Karandieve also emphasized that the reasons for the departure of employees from the cultural sphere are low wages and lack of prospects.
