The Verkhovna Rada Supports Bill to Manage Cultural Values Seized from Corruption Cases
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved in the first reading bill No. 11280-1, amending the Law «On the National Agency of Ukraine for the Detection, Search, and Management of Assets Derived from Corruption and Other Crimes.» This bill introduces new approaches to managing cultural values seized in criminal proceedings and transferred to the National Agency’s management.
The bill includes a mechanism for state expertise to assess the assets for cultural value status. If confirmed, these assets will be transferred to the ownership of state museums, reserves, libraries, or archives. The bill also prohibits the sale of property with cultural value status to preserve and protect the national heritage.
Earlier, it was announced that the National Art Museum of Ukraine will store 112 paintings from the collection seized from former MP Victor Medvedchuk, who faces charges of state treason.
