Interpretation of New Requirements for Drivers

From May 18, the law on strengthening mobilization came into force, leading to various interpretations regarding new requirements for drivers. Lawyer Oleksiy Shalar clarified the situation in an interview with «Novini.LIVE».

Know Your Rights

According to Shalar, when stopped by the police, a driver should ask for the reason for the stop and is not required to present documents without a clear reason. Police officers must have specific legal grounds for stopping a vehicle and must follow procedures outlined in the Law «On the National Police».

Demanding Evidence

If a driver is accused of a traffic violation, they have the right to demand evidence, such as video recordings. If no evidence is provided, the driver can refuse to present documents.

Understanding Detention

Under the new law, police can detain citizens for delivery to the Territorial Defense Forces and the Security Service. However, this applies only to military conscripts who are wanted or lack required military registration documents. Summons are issued by the Territorial Defense Forces, with police simply assisting in delivery. Shalar emphasized the importance of analyzing law enforcement actions in each case to ensure they comply with the law.
